Medicine in Malaysia Conference

2014 was an exciting year for Malaysian Medics International. Our flagship event in 2014 – The Medicine In Malaysia Conference, kickstarted on the 16th of August, 2014, when 300 Malaysian medical students attended the international level Malaysian medical conference to keep themselves abreast of the current medical climate in Malaysia.

Medicine in Malaysia Conference 2014 is the brainchild of Malaysian Medics International (MMI), brought to life in partnership with TalentCorp and UKEC, which took place at the Medical Faculty of Universiti Malaya.

The very first of its kind, this conference hosted participants from over 41 different universities hailing from 8 different countries. Over two days, participants were treated to 5 keynote speeches presented by a host of renowned Malaysian speakers, all of whom are experts in their respective fields. The 5 topics covered were Housemanship in Malaysia, Primary and Specialist Healthcare, Re- search in Malaysia, Rural and Volunteer Work and finally Returning to Practice in Malaysia.

Mock Interview for Cambridge Medical Applicants

In October 2014, MMI collaborated with Cambridge University Malaysia Society to organize mock interviews for Malaysian pre-university students who are applying to the University of Cambridge. These mock interviews were conducted via on-line video calls and was opened to all applicants after they registered with CUMaS and provided proof that they were scheduled for an actual Cambridge admission interview for the 2015 intake. Our interviewers were made up of a team of dedicated med- ical students across all pre-clinical years, who volunteered themselves to conduct these sessions without asking for any return.

Mock Multiple Mini Interviews

In December 2014, MMI United Kingdom hosted a mock multiple mini interview at the Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas and HELP University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of 16 medical students volunteered their time to interview 65 applicants. Most of the applicants were pre-university students from local colleges such as Taylors, HELP, KYUEM, KTJ, Sunway and many others. A number of prospective high school students were also present among the participants. Among the participants were. The mock interview benefited not only medical school applicants but also prospective students and a small number of dental school applicants.

The Specialising Opportunities Symposium (SOS)

Planned over the fourth quarter of 2014, MMI Malaysia was proud to present the Specialising Opportunities Symposium on the 7th of February, 2015.

Over 200 students from 17 different medical schools from all over Malaysia attended the Specializing Opportunities Symposium in hope to enlighten and deepen their knowledge on their prospective career in the medical field. With the collaboration of TalentCorp Malaysia and Taylor’s University, this symposium organised by MMI was the second successful major MMI event following the Medicine in Malaysia Conference back in August 2014. Renowned credible speakers were invited to this symposium to deliver valuable information on the options and specialization pathways available not just in Malaysia, but also in the United States and Singapore.
