MMI x Ikram Health Sunathon is a community service programme. This is our first circumcision programme organised by MMI in Kelantan. The event was co-organised with Ikram Health Malaysia Kelantan Branch and partnered with USM Medical Society, Bachok District Health, Dental, Fire and Rescue Office. 40 volunteers were involved for this programme, amongst them were doctors and medical students from USM.
Our aim of conducting this circumcision event was to reach out to the rural community by providing circumcision service and free medical and oral health screening to the underserved among the community. With the help of committees from Masjid Al-Abrar, we were able to identify 25 suitable candidates, age ranged from 8-12 years old for circumcision.
The circumcision procedure started at 9.30 am after a short briefing for the parents by Dr Mohd Rizal and Dr Mohammed Hafiz Hanafi. Meanwhile, health screening and dental screening for the public were started too. The whole event ended at 2.00 pm. A total of 100 people from the community attended and benefitted from the event. It is motivating to see such an overwhelming response from the community. Throughout the event, our volunteers also honed and showcased their patience and critical thinking skills while dealing with the attendees.
