Establishing a Chapter in China

Never have I thought that a simple conversation in an event would lead to an impactful moment that would change the course of history for our organisation.

Earlier this year, MMI Malaysia had organised the MMI CSI event, a medico-legal event aimed at raising awareness on medical litigations as well as various legal cases that may involve a healthcare professional.

Amongst the attendees, I got to know someone who was studying full-time in Beijing. Tan Yen, a 4th year medical student at Peking University Health Science Center, was the centre of attention for those who were interested in doing electives in China. Our conversation later managed to spark her interests in connecting Malaysians abroad.

A few days later, I met another CSI participant, Sien Ping, a first year who is presently studying in Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. We are already acquainted as he was previously a committee member of MMI Young Medics 2017/2018. Coincidentally, he was also interested in starting a council in China.

Seeing that my stars have aligned, I told Wen Yan (the other co-chair) about it. After connecting Tan Yen and Sien Ping together, we set into weeks of discussion. Now, we would like to announce that MMI China is ready to be established as a Chapter.

Here’s to a new milestone for MMI.

As the Chapter begins, a network of support is essential to the chapter’s operations. If you are currently a medical student studying in China, kindly fill this form. If you are interested in becoming part of the MMI community, let us know! This Chapter will serve to help and support the Malaysian community abroad. In the long run, we hope to form a community of Malaysian medical students studying in China.

If you are a medical student currently studying abroad and wish to open a chapter, let us know!
