MMI Australia Picnic by the Beach

Sydney, Australia, 7th March 2020 - 2020 started with many uncertainties and potential worries – unpredictable weathers, and currently unpredictable measurements of COVID-19. Senior medical students kicked start their year early, some in January and some in February, battling the hot weather and bush-fires. Some days, the demanding face pace of life showed little mercy, and it became especially hard when we had to spend time away from our families during festive seasons – a part of the identity of every Malaysian.

Junior medical students started their year in February, embracing new challenges and hopes. On Saturday 7th of March 2020, MMI Australia held the year’s first social event – MMI Australia Picnic by the Beach! Invitations were warmly extended to all Malaysian medical students studying in Australia, Malaysian medical graduates working in Australia, as well as our friends who were interested in expanding their network, or catching up with groups of friends after weeks or months. The unpredictable weather was a worry. Yet, this did not stop our friends from gathering at Coogee Beach at 9.30am!

It was a huge joy to be able to see everyone coming together despite seniority, nationality, and travel distances. Stories were experienced between bites of food and running after seagulls, advices were given and learnt, and contacts and laughter were shared generously.

The event was a huge success in our hearts. It further consolidated the importance and power of the community, of MMI’s outreach, especially in smaller communities where support could be difficult to come by. Many who came, as well as many who were unable to make it, expressed interest in similar future events! With this, MMI Australia aims to have many more social events in the future for Malaysian students across the world! Drop us a message anytime if you are visiting!

Let’s welcome 2020 together‼ To more photos poses, more colour days, and more unforgettable memories!

With love,
MMI Australia
