According to the World Health Organization and Global Adult Tobacco survey, around 8 million people globally are killed by tobacco use. In Malaysia alone, there are 20,000 deaths every year. The good news is that in Malaysia, there is a declining trend in the amount of smokers, and we target to reach a Smoke Free Malaysia by 2045.

In Malaysia, about 20.3 billion cigarettes were consumed, both legally and illegally in the year 2018. The amount of cigarettes consumed in Malaysia alone has increased since the year 2015, buckling the global trend of decreasing cigarette consumption. According to The Star newspaper on April 24th 2015, it was found that about 20,000 Malaysians die annually due to smoking
