"Don't we already have gender equality? Women can vote, work, and do everything that men can do."
Are we truly equal?
Gender bias and stereotyping remains prevalent in and towards Malaysian healthcare workers, be it from patient perception or between healthcare professionals. The situation in Malaysia echoes WHO's findings that disproportionately women deliver global health while men lead it.
Malaysia has been chronically under-prioritising effective laws and policies regarding gender equality. Rudimentary essentials such as the Gender Equality Bill have to be established here and now for Malaysia to be taken seriously as a competitive nation. Beneath it all, perpetuating gender biases and sterotypes within familial and educational institutions continue to hamper efforts to achieve gender equality.
